Texas-based, mixed media artist and gallerist, Maricela Sanchez uses her creativity and craftsmanship to break down barriers between art and daily life. To Maricela Sanchez, art is multi-faceted and all-encompassing.
Maricela has built her professional art career over the past 40 years. She works as a fine artist, design artist, never limiting her creativity to just one area. She explores all artistic avenues, experimenting with a variety of materials to fully express her creativity, while embracing the process.
Her paintings, prints, installations, sculptures, and mixed media pieces often take organic forms, intuitively striking a balance of nostalgia and anticipation, sophistication and sass, ambiguity and clarity. Maricela’s deep passion and innovative spirit are reflected in her work. Her art is owned by public, private, and museum collections.
Sanchez’s monoprints were created at Flatbed during Covid. She uses her creativity and craftsmanship to break down barriers between art and daily life. Over the past 40 years, Sanchez has worked as a high-end industrial designer and practices as a painter, printmaker, sculptor and mixed media artist.
During 2020, Sanchez felt affected by news of the economy, the stimulus checks, and countless stories of sadness and hardships stemming from the pandemic. After vaccinations were released, Sanchez traveled to Flatbed and started a series of monoprints that carried her response to her time of isolation. Using the iconic imagery of a $100 bill and repeating patterns of lips in the multi-layered monoprints, Sanchez created her own currency. The results are a vibrant, cheeky, layered physically and conceptually series of large monoprints.
In addition to her fine art and design career, Maricela is an innovator and entrepreneur. In 2012, Maricela pioneered the path of intricate cutout pattern luxury dog crates by seamlessly merging the aesthetic and practical into her Bespoke Crates and Gates product line. Here she combined her love of art and her love of animals. Working closely alongside craftsmen, she developed fully-functional, art-infused pet products that enhance the homes and lifestyles of clients around the United States. Although other companies and artists have since followed in this trailblazer’s footsteps, Maricela is considered a leader in this endeavor.
Maricela is also leading the way on a new focus endeavor to bring more artists to South Texas. In collaboration with interior design art studio, SPACE by RBI, Maricela delivers insights into transforming clients environments and enriching their surroundings. She helps clients procure beautiful fine art for their special spaces.
Maricela’s art is owned by public, private, and museum collections. She lives in Texas with her husband and their beloved pets.
